Sutton Center named finalist for 2017 award!

The Sutton Center is thrilled to announce that out of nearly 19,000 nonprofit organizations in Oklahoma, we have been named one of 24 finalists for the 2017 Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence Awards. The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits will announce eight category winners as well as an overall winner at a gala ceremony in Tulsa on April 29.

ONE Award finalist

The G. M. Sutton Avian Research Center is one of two dozen Oklahoma organizations that were named finalists for a $10,000 award and the title of the state’s top nonprofit, thanks to the prestigious Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence Awards, annually presented by the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits.

For over 30 years, the Sutton Center has been dedicated to fulfilling its mission of finding cooperative conservation solutions for birds and the natural world through science and education. Eagles and grouse and many other bird species have benefited from the center’s research and conservation work, and generations of Oklahomans have learned from, assisted with, and taken pride in Sutton Center educational and conservation projects.

“It is gratifying to have been selected as a finalist for the ONE Award. Many Oklahoma nonprofit organizations do so much good work, and it is thrilling to be singled out for our efforts on behalf of wildlife,” said Karen Kilbourne with the Sutton Center.

On April 29, the 24 finalists will join supporters at Tulsa’s Renaissance Tulsa Hotel & Convention Center to celebrate and hear the announcement of winners at the 10th annual ONE Awards.

Finalists are divided into eight mission categories and receive $5,000, with category winners receiving $7,500. At the end of the evening, an overall winner receives $10,000 and the title of the top nonprofit in the state.

“Wildlife conservation happens only because enough people care enough to make it happen. The Sutton Center is proud to contribute to Oklahoma’s conservation legacy, and being a ONE award finalist helps raise awareness for the ongoing work that we do,” said Kilbourne.

Founded 34 years ago, the Sutton Avian Research Center blends sound science with creative and cooperative conservation for birds in Oklahoma and beyond.
